Omoton 2.4G Ergonomic Wireless Mouse Review

If you read my reviews regularly you will notice that I have tried a couple of cheap wireless mice from Amazon. So far they have been pretty good. The first one that I reviewed was a Redragon one and you can read that review here. The second was a Victsing mouse that you can read about here. The Victsing one works great but is a little smaller than I prefer. The Redragon one I really liked but the scroll wheel recently stopped working correctly so I went looking for a new mouse. That is where the Omoton 2.4G Ergonomic Wireless Mouse comes in.

Design

The Omoton mouse is one of the cheapest wireless mice that is available on Amazon. So as a result it doesn’t really have a premium feel. The mouse itself is just basic plastic. There are no rubber grips or even a satin finish anywhere. It is just basic, smooth, shiny plastic. There are your standard left and right buttons and the scroll wheel which also doubles as the center button. Above your thumb there are your standard forward and back buttons as well. On the bottom there are five very small pads to allow the mouse to slide easily on any surface. These should probably be a little larger but as they are they work fine.

When it comes to connecting to your computer the Omoton mouse uses 2.4G technology and a small USB receiver. This is supposed to work from up to 30ft. Away. I never measured during my testing but it did seem to work from a good distance from the computer. The mouse is powered by two AAA batteries which are supposed to work for up to 30 months but that might just be in standby mode. The description does say it will last 2 – 4 months of use so it is a little hard to determine which is correct.

The Omoton mouse is on the larger side which I like. It is 4.7” long, 2.8” wide and 1.6” tall. This puts it within the range of a lot of mice and is the size that fits my hand the best. If your hands are on the small side though it may feel a little large to you. The shape is also very nice and reminds me of a lot of the Logitech mice that are on the market.

Use

Setting up the mouse is basically the same as any other. You plug the receiver into an open USB port and turn on the switch on the bottom of the mouse. It immediately connects and starts to work. I have tried it with Windows and Ubuntu Linux and both worked flawlessly. All of the buttons worked perfectly and the scroll wheel worked great as well. When not in use the receiver can be stored on the bottom of the mouse if you want.

As far as how the mouse itself feels, it feels pretty much the same as any lower end mouse, including some by more well known brands. Each button has a nice amount of tension and a good click when you use it. The scroll wheel has a nice feel to it with well defined detents so you don’t accidentally scroll way too fast. If you are not a fan of a plastic feel or really like the rubberized grip of a lot of mice though, this one is not for you.

The Omotion mouse slides well on the small slide pads. I didn’t notice any rocking and the pads seemed to support the mouse well. I do wish that these pads were a little larger though. Another feature that this mouse has is the ability to switch between 5 different DPI levels. It can adjust to 800, 1200, 1600, 2000 and 2400 DPI so everyone should be able to find the level that they like. Even if you are using the mouse for gaming.

Conclusion

The Omoton 2.4G Ergonomic Wireless Mouse is a basic, cheap wireless mouse. It doesn’t have any premium materials or features. What it does have is all of the required features of a standard mouse. Nice feeling buttons and scroll wheel, adjustable DPI levels, forward and back thumb buttons and it comes at a very cheap price. For anyone looking for a basic mouse to use for every day computing or even some light gaming I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this mouse. If you are going to use the mouse for long hours or playing high level games then you should probably look into a more premium mouse. The Omoton 2.4G Ergonomic Wireless Mouse is a great, cheap mouse though so don’t overlook it if you are searching for a new one.
