Redragon Mirage 2 Wireless Gaming Mouse Review

Are you looking for a wireless gaming mouse? Do you just want a mouse for everyday use and maybe to play a game every once in a while? In either case the Redragon Mirage 2 Wireless Gaming Mouse might be for you.

The Mirage 2 is a pretty large mouse. It is 5” long, 2.9” wide and 1.6” tall at its highest point. This size lends itself very well to people with large hands, especially if they like to use a palm grip. The mouse is very light which some people may like. When you add the AA battery it feels a little bit more substantial though.

The Mirage 2 definitely has a lot of plastic which some may consider cheap looking. Every mouse is made of plastic though so I don’t really consider that to be a problem. It is a lot more noticeable in the red areas. It would have been nice to have some more texture on the red plastic to avoid the smooth, cheap look but again it’s not really an issue. The top of the mouse though has a nice finish that almost feels satiny. This area feels pretty similar to most higher end mice I have used. There are also some nice rubber inserts on the sides and on the scroll wheel that add grip. This rubber is pretty shiny which gives it a bit of a cheaper look and it would have been nice to see a more matte finish.

Redragon Mirage 2 bottom

On the bottom you will find 5 Teflon pads, the battery compartment, the sensor and the power switch. The switch can be set to on, off or eco. On and Off are self explanatory but Eco turns off the LED’s to save some battery life. The sensor is infrared not laser and does a good job of tracking.

There are 9 buttons total advertised but 2 of those buttons are for adjusting the DPI and Polling rate. So there are really 7 buttons available. It has your standard left and right buttons up top and the middle button is the scroll wheel. There is also a forward and back button above your thumb rest and another in front of your thumb.

The package itself is actually a storage box for bringing your mouse with you without damaging it. It has the Redragon logo on it and 4 clips that securely hold the lid in place. The mouse comes with a small USB-A dongle that is small enough to keep in your computer. If you don’t want to do that there is a storage slot for it on the bottom of the mouse. The package also comes with a Redragon sticker, a quick start guide and an instruction manual.

Use & Features

Using the Redragon Mirage 2 couldn’t be any easier. All you have to do is plug in the supplied dongle and the mouse just works. This is pretty much universal now-a-days but every once in a while you come across something that requires you to install drivers or software first. The box says that it works with Windows (XP to 10) and Mac OS 10+ but be aware that on the Mac OS the side buttons do not work. I use Ubuntu linux and it worked perfect for me right away. All of the buttons worked great as soon as I switched it on. According to the box it works up to 15m away and uses 2.4 GHz. I haven’t tested the max distance but I haven’t had any connection issues in my testing.

The mouse has five DPI settings which you can change on the fly using the two buttons on top behind the scroll wheel. You can switch between 800, 1200, 1600, 2000 & 2400 DPI. This is a good selection of DPI settings in my opinion. If you really want a super high DPI when gaming or you use super specific numbers then this mouse isn’t for you. For most people though these should offer more than enough options in DPI settings. You can also adjust the polling rate between 125 Hz and 250 Hz using the same buttons if you want too.

The scroll wheel has nice feeling detents. There is no free scrolling option but the detents are enough to stop your scrolling accurately but still allow you to scroll very quickly. When moving it around the mouse slides very well on the pads. As I mentioned earlier it is definitely on the light side. If you like a light mouse it will be great for you. When it comes to tracking I only encountered a couple of small skips when I tried it on a very glossy plastic. Every other surface has been fine.

Redragon Mirage 2 LED's

The buttons all have a very satisfying click. If you like silent buttons this mouse will not be one that you like. They have a nice feel though and I didn’t notice any sloppiness. The buttons all required a good amount of pressure but not too much. Basically the buttons all feel great and they are rated for 10 million clicks so they should last.

The last feature that I am going to mention you will see as soon as you plug the mouse in. This feature is the red LED lights. These lights are fixed at red so you can’t change the colour. They light up the Redragon logo as well as some clear plastic sections on the mouse body. I am not a huge fan of LED’s on mice so I turn them off but if you do like LED lights these ones do look pretty good. As long as you like red of course.

Conclusion

The Redragon Mirage 2 Wireless Gaming Mouse is a great gaming mouse. It has multiple DPI settings, an adjustable polling rate, multiple buttons and even some LED lights. The included dongle is small and it works without additional drivers or software on basically any OS. Best of all this mouse is very inexpensive. It usually can be found for around $30 USD which is much cheaper than almost any other gaming mouse that you will find.

If you like a super high DPI or you want to adjust your DPI to a very specific number then this mouse is not for you. If you want a gaming mouse that you can use as an everyday mouse as well as for gaming and you don’t need any more than 2400 DPI then this mouse is great. I definitely recommend the Redragon Mirage 2 Wireless Gaming Mouse especially for casual gamers and kids.
