Dudios Freedots True Wireless Earbuds Review

These days everybody has a phone at all times. They are also almost always streaming something. Whether it be music, videos, an audiobook, etc. something is always playing. As a result most people turn to wireless earbuds. They are light, fit in your ears and no cord is required. The Dudios Freedots True Wireless Earbuds are a great option if you are looking for a cheaper to try.

The Freedots are very similar to a lot of other earbuds. They come in a small case which also doubles as a charger. The earbuds themselves are what I call an “in-ear” style. By this I mean that they fit completely in your ear with no pieces that hang down (like Apple AirPods) or over your ear.

The Freedots themselves and very light. Their body is a nice rounded shape which fits my ears perfect. The stem that goes into your ear canal is offset and seems to be very well designed. The rubber tip is very comfortable and does a good job blocking out a lot of sound. Like most earbuds there are 3 different sizes of rubber tips in case you need another size. Besides that the earbuds each have a single button on them which is used to turn them on/off, mute, skip songs, etc.

Use

Using the Freedots is no different than any other set of bluetooth earbuds. You take them out of the case, hold the button to turn them on and they immediately go into pairing mode. You search for them on your device and pair them. They will pair instantly and the sound will be transferred to the earbuds. If you are like me once they are paired you will never turn them off, just put them back in the case. They snap back into place very well using magnets so they won’t bounce around inside of the case. As soon as they are back in the case they will unpair and start to charge.

The Freedots use Bluetooth 5.0 so they will stay paired for around 33 ft. away from the device. When it comes to features the Freedots have the standards. They can be used one at a time if you want to. They will automatically go into stereo mode if both earbuds are removed though. The button works exactly as designed. It has a nice feel to it and does what it is supposed to. Song skipping, muting, etc. all work great.

Features

The Freedots have all of the features that you would expect in a cheaper set of earbuds. When it comes to charging they have pretty good battery life. The earbuds themselves can be used for 4 hours and the charging case has enough battery life to fully recharge them 3 times. As a result you get a total of 16 hours of battery life (at 50% volume) with a fully charged case. The case charges via micro-usb which is ok but I would have hoped for USB-C in 2021. This isn’t a deal breaker though. The Freedots also feature 6mm drivers to give you better sound. As well as an IPX7 sweat and waterproof rating, and Google Assistant and Siri capability.

Test

In my testing the Freedots are really better than I expected. They sound really good and don’t seem to lack any bass which is normally a problem with a lot of cheaper earbuds. They paired instantly, charge quickly and really do hold their connection from a good distance away. The button functions exactly how it should and the voice quality while using them for hands free phone calls was really good. They are also very comfortable and smaller than most other earbuds that I have tried. The only issue that I have is that they use micro-usb for charging but that isn’t really an issue just something that I wish was different.

Conclusion

The Dudios Freedots True Wireless Earbuds are a surprisingly good set of cheaper earbuds. I would definitely recommend them to anyone unless they are looking for a very high level of audio quality. In that case you are going to have to spend hundreds of dollars. For 99.9% of people though the Dudios Freedots will sound way better than they need and they won’t notice any problems. The battery life is more than sufficient for almost everyone and the price really can’t be beat. If you are looking for a set of wireless earbuds or even just for a second pair to have with you I don’t think that you can go wrong with the Dudios Freedots True Wireless Earbuds.

***UPDATE: After testing these earbuds for a few weeks I can no longer recommend them. Everything that I say above still applies but there seems to be a quality issue with the product. I had an initial pair that were damaged when I opened the box. The button cover had fallen off. I figured it was a manufacturing mistake. It happens. I contacted Dudios and they sent me another pair. These are the ones that I reviewed. They were great for approx. 3-4 weeks then the button cover fell off of the left earbud. That makes me think it is a flaw in the earbuds design.***
