Google Pixel 5 in 2023?

Are you in need of a new cell phone but don’t need the fastest most powerful one around? This is a common issue. New phones are so powerful now that they have eclipsed what most people require and a side effect of all that power is a hefty price tag. If this is something that you are struggling with I suggest the Google Pixel 5. But should you really get a Google Pixel 5 in 2023?

Why the Pixel 5?

Truthfully there are a lot of older phones that will fit the bill if you are looking for a phone to handle normal everyday tasks. My suggestion though is to stick to a used “flagship” phone as the power to price ratio is pretty good with those. Since I prefer Android over iOS I think there is no better option than the Pixel 5 right now.

If you are unfamiliar with the Google Pixel line of phones they are basically the only phone that uses stock Android OS. This saves memory space, cuts down on background tasks which slow your phone down and it is the only phone made by Google themselves. Pixel phones are also known for having amazing cameras which is what most people will really benefit from on a daily basis.

Don’t get me wrong, you can buy an older Samsung Galaxy, iPhone, or any other well known phone and get a great experience but there are some downsides. For one they tend to be quite a bit more expensive on the resale market. Two, if you choose the Galaxy or any other Android phone you will get a version of Android which isn’t stock and takes up more storage and power on your phone. And three, the Pixel cameras are really great and the other phones probably won’t compare.

Pixel 5 Specs

I am not going to go into huge detail here but the Pixel 5 is a bit smaller than a lot of the new phones out there. The screen is a 6″ OLED and runs at 90Hz. It has 8GB of ram and an 8 core processor. Those specs basically mean the screen looks great and it can handle most tasks with the only hiccups maybe coming from playing very demanding mobile games. The camera is 16MP and since it is a Pixel it uses Google’s amazing photo processing which makes it have some of the best pictures around. Even when you compare them to the brand new $1000+ phones.

This is a good question? Why the Pixel 5 over all of the other options? Well… the price. The Pixel 5 came out in 2020 so it is 3 years old now. Since it is older you can get it for under $200 in most cases. That is incredibly inexpensive for a phone with the capabilities of a Pixel 5. In fact if you do a deep dive into the phones benchmark test results you will see that the Pixel 5 still beats most, if not all, of the brand new budget and a lot of the mid-range phones that are out there. You won’t find too many of those phones anywhere near $200 either.

Conclusion

You can get any older flagship phone and it will probably be pretty good. Phones have progressed well beyond what most people require. At the $200 range though I think you will have a hard time beating the Google Pixel 5 in 2023.

I think it is a great choice if you are looking for an inexpensive phone that can handle your day to day tasks and provide you with a great camera. It is an amazing phone for seniors since they don’t usually have the requirements of a lot of younger people. It is an amazing phone for young children who just want to play some games and watch streaming services via WiFi. The Pixel 5 really is a great choice for probably 70% – 80% of the population that don’t use anywhere near the capabilities of their phones. That is why I bought one for my daughter in 2023 and she is loving it. Especially after I paired it with a great Caseology case. You can check that out here if you want
