Caseology Parallax Review

As you may have noticed by reading this blog I try to save money when I can. That is why I try to find products that suit the needs that I have without breaking the bank. One of the best ways to save money though is to protect what you already have. Cell phones are something that almost everyone has and they cost a significant amount of money. They definitely should be protected and the easiest way to do that is to get a quality case like the Caseology Parallax.

Why do I need a phone case?

Simple really, to protect your phone. Everyone at some point will drop their phone or it will fall off a table or out of your pocket. You can be super careful but eventually it will happen. Most phones have pretty good built in protection for these instances but they will take some sort of damage. If you want to sell your phone in the future that damage will hurt you.

What type of damage do phones get?

Newer phones are pretty good at protecting the internal components from a fall. The outside is a different story though. If your phone is plastic or metal a fall will most likely scratch, chip or crack the case. Most of the time this isn’t a huge problem and is just cosmetic. Most mid to high end phones though are glass all around. This looks very sleek and modern but it also creates bigger problems when they hit the ground. The glass on phones is tempered so it is designed to take a direct hit and not break easily. It will scratch though. And if that hit happens on an edge the glass is most likely going to crack or even completely shatter. Unfortunately landing on a corner is very common when you drop a phone.

What kind of protection does a case provide?

This really depends on the case. Some cases are little more than a thin silicone sleeve designed to change the look of your phone. These provide nothing more than some extra grip. Higher end cases like the Caseology Parallax on the other hand are designed for looks and protection.

Features of the Caseology Parallax

The Caseology has all of what I consider to be the essential features that you should look for in a phone case.

  1. It looks good. There are multiple colour choices available and the back of the Parallax has a a very nice looking geometric pattern.
  2. It increases grip. The pattern on the back is textured which helps. The edges of the case are made of a grippy silicone which also greatly increases the grip over a plastic or glass phone body.
  3. It has military grade drop protection. This is very important. By being certified military grade you can be assured that the drop protection, especially on the corners, is going to help you in case of a drop. It also means the case was certified. Usually this protection is accomplished by a textured interior on the back of the case and by having small air pockets on the corners. Those combined with the flexible material allow the case to absorb most of the impact in case of a fall.
  4. There is some screen protection built in. Now I am not talking about a screen protector that is attached to the glass. You should have one of those too but I am referring to a small ridge around the screen that keeps the screen from touching a flat surface if you put the phone down on its screen. This helps in drops sometimes but this protection is more for when you put your phone on a table. The ridge creates a gap between the table and the screen so the glass doesn’t get scratched.
  5. It has perfect cutouts to fit your phone. This is of utmost importance. Each case needs to be made for your model of phone and the cutouts have to be perfect. If the case doesn’t fit right the protection will be compromised. If the cutouts aren’t correct you will lose access to charging ports, block the mic, not be able to push buttons, etc.
  6. It is pretty thin. I really think you need a case but you don’t want one that is so thick that you are carrying around a brick of a phone. I always try to get the thinnest case with the features listed above.
  7. It is wireless charging compatible. This is big for me since I charge my phone wirelessly but if you don’t this may not be a huge feature for you. Regardless the Caseology Parallax is wireless charging compatible.

Should you buy the Caseology Parallax?

Based on the seven points that I list above I would say… Yes! The Caseology Parallax is one of a lot of cases that fit the criteria above but, in my opinion, it is one of the better looking cases available. That combined with the protection and the relatively low price make the Caseology Parallax one of the best cases available for your beloved cell phone.
