Everybody wants to get into having a smart home these days. They just look so cool. Most people also don’t really know where or how to start. One of the easiest things to start with is with WiFi light bulbs. These don’t require any special equipment and all you really have to do is screw them in to an existing socket. If they can change colors that is even better. That is why the LEpro WiFi Smart WiFi LED Bulb is a great choice.
Design
The LEpro WiFi Smart LED Bulb looks like a standard LED light bulb. The one that I am reviewing has an A19 shape and an E26 base. If you don’t know those are the standard bulb sizes so it will fit most fixtures that you probably already have. The body is gloss white and the part that lights up is a translucent white. Basically it looks like a regular light bulb.
Tech Specs
There really aren’t a ton of tech specs when it comes to light bulbs. There are a few though. The bulb that I am testing is the equivalent of 60W but it only uses 9W. Those are the same as most LED light bulbs that you will find. The light output is 806 lumens and it is rated to last 25,000 hrs.
The WiFi that is supported is 2.4 Ghz. 5 Ghz WiFi is not supported. This is pretty standard with a lot of smart home products. This bulb is RGB + White. This means that it can change to 16 million colors as well as warm white. The warm white color temperature is 2700k so it is more yellow than a bluish white light.
Performance
When you first plug in the LEpro light bulb it will work just like a regular light bulb. It is warm white and looks like a standard light bulb. To get all of the smart capabilities you have to connect it to your home’s WiFi. The instructions on how to do this are included. Basically though you leave it on for a bit, turn it off and back on again to put it into pairing mode. Then you connect it with the LE LampUX app which you can download from the Google Play Store. I had a bit of an issue connecting the bulb to the app. It did eventually work but it did give me a little issue. This seems to be a common issue with LEpro products. I had the same issue with a LEpro LED Light strip (read that review here)
Once connected to the app it works flawlessly. You can turn it on and off, dim it, change the color, etc. Within the app itself you can set up scenes and there are a few other options. The LampUX app also supports Google Assistant and Alexa so you can connect it with those if you have them. I tested it with Google Assistant and it works great though you have a few less options. Instead of a full 16 million colors you get a selection of pre-configured colors and there are no scene options. The on/off and dimming work great though. Also you can use Google’s own routines to create scenes if you want too.
When it comes to the light output the white light is nice and bright and seems to be accurate at 806 lumens. Lighter colors are also nice and bright. Darker colors have a great color representation but they are not very bright. For instance a dark blue looks very good but doesn’t really output enough light to use in anything but maybe a lamp. This is an issue that a lot of colored light bulbs have but the LEpro is particularly dim. If you want to have a bulb with darker colors for anything other than highlighting a small area you should probably look at a different brand.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a smart light bulb which can change colors, the LEpro WiFi Smart LED Bulb is one you should check out. Once connected it works perfectly as it is supposed too. There are a ton of color options and the app is well designed. Just keep in mind how you want to use it. If you want deep, rich colors that light up a room you should look to a different bulb. If you want deep, rich colors that light up a small space like a desk or project off of a wall for an accent then the LEpro WiFi Smart LED Bulb is a great choice. Especially since it runs quite a bit cheaper than a lot of its competitors.
