Do you ever see pictures online of a desk with glowing colored lights behind it? Or maybe a bed or couch that glows on the floor? Do you wonder how to get that effect? Well if you do then you need to get yourself some LED light strips. The LEpro Smart LED RGB Strip Lights are a great one to consider.
What is a LED light strip?
LED lights trips are basically what they sound like, a strip of plastic that has LED lights and the required wiring built into it. They usually come with an adhesive backing so they can be stuck to whatever surface you would like. Some come with different color options, with and without remotes, etc. They are all basically the same thing though, a strip of LED lights.
Design
The LED Strip Lights that I am reviewing here is 16 ft. long and ½” wide. This is the most common size that you will see. It is a white strip and it has RGB and warm white light options. There is also an adhesive backing.
This strip is trimmable as well. This way you can make it shorter if you like. Just make sure that you do it in the areas marked as safe. There is a control box, a wall power adapter and cord and a remote as well. This model also works with the LE LampUX app and Google Assistant and Alexa.
Installation
Installing the strip is the same as every other LED light strip. You attach it to whatever surface you want. Remember though to get that glow effect that you see you want it to shine onto something like the floor or a wall. If not you will see a bunch of different points of light and not that even glow. The adhesive is very strong and worked great to attach the strip to my son’s bedframe. There is an unboxing video at the end of this post that also shows my installation and a little test if you want to check that out.
Once the strip is attached where you want it all you do it plug the end into the controller box and then the adapter into the wall. The control has an on and off button on it so use can use that or you can use the included remote as well. The remote also allows you to pic a couple different options and change colors.
To attach the light strip to the LampUX app you need to set it up on your home’s WiFi. There are included instructions which tell you how to do this. It is pretty straightforward and shouldn’t be too hard for anyone.
There is one quirk though that I found. The instructions tell you to hold the power button for approximately 5 secs. After that the light strip will flash and you can connect it to the app. In my testing the light will flash but it will not connect. This also happened with a LEpro light bulb that I am testing. To get them to connect I had to hold the button and continue to hold it until the light flashes. This takes more like 10 secs. but that worked right away each time. So if you have any issues with holding for 5 sec. and it not connecting try holding it until it flashes then let go.
Performance
The lights performance is pretty great. The remote works perfectly as expected. You can change the colors easily, dim the lights or pick between the different modes. These strip lights have a few different modes to choose from. There is on, which leaves the lights on in one color. There is a mode that fades the lights on and off every few seconds. Each time it fades back up it switches to a new color. There is also a music mode which flashes different colors along with the sound it is detecting. That one is very popular with my kids.
Once the app is connected it also works great. It easily switches between modes and you get a few other features as well. The app allows for a huge amount of color options as well as scheduling and a few other options. You can also connect the app to Google Assistant or Alexa to control the lights with your voice. When using Google Assistant you can turn it on or off, dim the lights or change the color. You can’t switch modes with your voice though.
Conclusion
If you are looking for a good and pretty inexpensive LED light strip the LEpro Smart LED RGB Strip Lights are a great choice. They have all of the standard features and a couple more. The music mode is especially cool. My kids love their lights and I think they are pretty cool too.
