Importance of Taking a Break

If you are a regular viewer of this site you have probably noticed that there has not been a post in over 5 months. That is what brings me to today’s post about the importance of taking a break,

stress increases

Life is inherently stressful. Modern life is even more stressful than ever before. I know this as well as anybody. Don’t get me wrong, I am not a workaholic. I don’t have a high stress job compared to many other people. I am not stressing over the basic necessities of life like many people, sadly, have too. Like everybody else though I have my own problems and stressors.

I started this website almost two years ago. I started it mainly as a creative project. Soon after I created my YouTube channel. I really didn’t know what I was doing with the website, YouTube, social media, etc. I still have a lot to learn. On top of this I was and still am working my regular full time job, trying to take care of my children, bring them to their activities, etc. and was starting to have some issues in my marriage. Unfortunately a few months after starting all of this my marriage completely fell apart.

Now for the last 20 months I have been trying to juggle my full time job, this website, YouTube, social media, a divorce, custody battles, house sale, quickly diminishing finances as a result of all of the above and everything else that comes with a situation like this. I started a lot of new things like regular exercise and eating better. Mainly for health reasons but also to help me reduce the stress that comes with all of lives messes.

I thought that I was doing pretty good. After a brief leave from work when things first went down I soon settled into my “new” normal routine. There is a lot going on though and after 1.5 years of battling and trying to keep my head above water I just started to feel really overwhelmed. I was exercising, eating better, getting more sleep but all of that started to not work anymore.

Take a Break post-it

Unfortunately I was still feeling very tired all of the time, I was physically and mentally exhausted, I was starting to find it hard to concentrate on my work and I started to dread keeping up with this site and my YouTube channel. I started this because I enjoyed doing it and it started to become a hassle and not enjoyable like it should have been. So I decided to take a break.

I still posted some videos to YouTube but I was not very consistent. As you already know I completely stopped posting here. I did do some new things. I got back into gaming a bit, I focused on my full time job, and I kept exercising but I modified how much I was doing to make it less of a chore and not take so much time. Now 5 months later I am feeling re-energized.

So now I am going to get back to making regular posts here. I am going to start posting on YouTube regularly (I do a lot of different content there so if you haven’t checked it out I would appreciate it if you did). I can only do this because I decided that taking a break was the best thing for me. It was one of the best decisions that I have ever made.

If you are feeling burnt out, overwhelmed, stressed or just like you need a break I suggest that you take one. Maybe it is just something small like skipping your housework for a day. Maybe it is a vacation. No matter what you do though taking a step back will probably help you get reinvigorated and get back to being the best version of you that you can be. Never underestimate the importance of taking a break.
